Dahlia Tubers Presale Info
How it works
We sell our dahlias using a cart system where credit card payment is required at check out. If for any reason when sending out we cannot supply a variety, we will offer a refund or another variety to swap to.
Your order will be sent out in late August / early September and we will be in touch with tracking details.
We can only send within New Zealand.
It’s first in, first served. We have limited quantities available, and some varieties will have limits per order. Once a tuber is sold out, that's it!
Shipping cannot be combined this year. Unfortunately the admin involved in doing this is too much for us.
Please tick Rural Delivery if you are at a rural address. If you don't do this and we see you are rural we will hold your order and get in touch with you.
All tubers are grown here in Auckland for cut flower picking.
If you have any issues with your tubers on arrival, please let us know ASAP so we can rectify it for you.
Some are single tubers, some small clumps, different shapes and sizes but they will all be viable with eyes (don’t worry, they will grow beautiful plants regardless of tuber size on arrival).
Ordering
Each order and quantities will be carefully checked. We have shipping costs setup, but if your order is large and ends up outside our standard shipping range, we will contact you to refine costs.
What you add to your cart does not confirm your order until you checkout, so don't be slow if you know what you want!
Please note that some varieties have restrictions on quantities, if you add more than the restriction you will be refunded.
We are sorry but this year we cannot offer combined postage for multiple orders. Unfortunately the admin involved in this was crazy last year.
Growing Guide
When you get your tubers, store in a dry place until you are ready to plant. If your tubers shrivel slightly don't worry they will plump up once planted.
Planting should be done in spring after the last frost. Plant in a full sun position that is protected from strong winds. Dahlias can grow tall so staking is advised.
Plant in fertile well drained soil, they can get rot if in prolonged wet soil. Lay the tuber on its side with the eyes facing upwards and cover with soil, buried at approximately 5-10cm deep.
Pinching is highly recommended to get a beautiful bushy plant with lots of flowers. When you have the first 3 sets of leaves simply pinch out the tip. Your plant will branch out from this and produce a lot better than not pinching.
Dead heading is advised if you are not cutting regularly. If you are using for cut flower picking cut deep into the plant to encourage nice strong tall stems.
Watering is needed during dry periods. Adding a seaweed fertilizer regularly is recommended as they are heavy feeders.
Monitor for pest and disease. Aphids, thrips, mildew and mites are some of the most common problems in dahlias.
Virus disclaimer
Please be aware that we take viruses very seriously and are extremely careful and are happy with the health of our tubers - however, it's important to understand it can be living in your soil & can be transmitted by sucking insects/bugs, therefore there is no way of knowing for sure where it comes from. Plants can sometimes show signs of virus that can actually be nutrient deficiencies. Tubers will be very carefully checked over before dispatch with no known signs of disease, however, we have no control over what happens over the growing season. Therefore, if any disease appears throughout the growing season no refund will be given. So please only order with us if you are happy with these terms.
